Why do we only know that its Earth Day when its Earth Day?!?
This is the day where we need to pause and realize exactly what we take without being appreciative or giving back. This is when we should be inspired to make a change. Two days ago Table Mountain suffered a great loss due to fires which were very possibly the act of foolish human beings. Animals fled for their lives, no home to return to, Fynbos was damaged and houses wrecked which needs to be rebuilt, the ruins turned to waste. Mines threaten our beautiful West Coast, fauna and flora which have been living in peace – now killed for money and our Rhino’s still die daily because of uninformed beliefs which most of the world laugh about, yet nobody cares enough about to properly put a stop to the killing of these innocent animals ( hats off to the brave ones who do stand against poachers everyday).
Am I missing something or have we lost our passion for saving our planet?

We need more than one “Earth Day” per year!!! Hell – one per month!! Switch off your lights, dont buy plastic and re-use your coffee cup for a day (without complaining). Take your own shopping bag to the store, recycle your waste, check the label of your fancy face products – chances are, the ones which make you beautiful, hurt a few dozen innocent animals in the process. Shame on you…on us.
We all post and share photos of exotic holidays spent in nature. It’s really something to laugh about – how stupid are we? We travel far and wide to ski on the most beautiful snowy mountains, dive in the most exotic oceans to witness colorful reefs, shark cage diving, wild safari’s, boat cruises and whale watching – only to return home (or even to our hotel rooms) and continue our misuse of waste. Wake up humans, you are being such hypocrites.
Earth Day. Market this in the same extent as Valentines day, Easter and even Christmas – big companies make só much money with trashy plastic comodities on these days which land up in our oceans anyway. Teach our children about nature, conservation and sustainability at home and in school. Adopt a pet and start your veggie patch – get your hands dirty and include your kids!!! Am I missing something or have we lost our passion for saving our planet? This is rediculous – why does nobody realize it?
We only have 1 earth – and damnit it’s beautiful!!
Let’s start giving back, saving, appreciating, planting trees, looking out for our bees, stop the use of bloody plastic, stand up for our oceans, protect our rhino’s, use animal friendly products, support bio-diversity – bring your game!! – we are stuck with the mess generations before us left us with, let’s change it for the better so our kids could live by our example!!
